"The need to update our contingency plans resulted in a pleasant surprise. In cooperation with ORBIT, we have created an application that allows you to plan and manage every test and any change project. No matter how challenging it is."

Raiffeisenbank & Disaster Recovery Manager or TaskControl | ORBIT

NOT A SHOT WITHOUT MOBILE, EMAIL, CHAT AND EXCEL SPREADSHEET!

Raiffeisenbank simulate disaster recovery (DR) tests complete blackout one of the bank's two data centers. The test is preceded by careful preparation and thoughtful organisation of dozens of workers and hundreds of strictly synchronised tasks - which is not the case.

Raiffeisenbank's original crisis plan took the form of a large Excel spreadsheet. It was updated during the test overloaded DR manager Communicating by phone/texting/chatting with the rest of the team: 'When will it be? What's the problem? Let it go and get on with..."

Tests that did not end in complete success, while did not have a sufficiently clear notationwith which a reliable improvement could be found. Raiffeisenbank management therefore decided to turn to ORBIT to help them find a systemic and precise solution.

CHALLENGES FOR ORBIT

  • Design a solution to support the bank's DR tests
  • Update disaster recovery plans
  • Succeed with the solution during the bank's next DR test in just 12 weeks

THERE IS NO PERFECT SOLUTION? SO WE'LL FIGURE IT OUT.

First, we at Raiffeisenbank update all DR scenarios. During the course of our work, we realized that the best thing to do for our client would be to prepare a customized tool for real-time management disaster recovery test.

We have therefore designed an online Disaster Recovery Manager application that allows draw up a clear DR plan (in our case about 300 steps) and then follow it order the whole test. Interactive, calm and without the need to resuscitate the DR manager at the end.

Disaster Recovery Manager | ORBIT

The planned sharp DR test in Raiffeisenbank took place on the original date and above expectations. Thanks to DR Manager, the normal test duration significantly shortened and the result left an excellent impression on the participants. Disaster, this time unsimulated, did not take place.

Today, Raiffeisenbank can, based on the resulting DR test protocol analyse and adjust the DR plan retrospectively for further use. In addition, the course of the test is exportable as logwhich also serves as an audit basis for the CNB.

"Everyone had a constant overview of what, where and how things were going on, which was a completely different experience for everyone, practically incomparable to when everything is coordinated by one projectionist with a phone, chat and excel."
Martin Job, IT Architect, Raiffeisenbank

RESULTS FOR RAIFFEISENBANK

  • Updated DR scenarios
  • Functional applications for planning and managing DR tests (and other challenging projects)
  • Time saving of approx. 6 hours in one DR test
  • Lower error rate of the DR testing process
  • Exportable logos for the CNB

THE SECOND LIFE OF DISASTER RECOVERY MANAGER OR THE BIRTH OF TASKCONTROL

It turns out that Disaster Recovery Manager is not just another project planning tool, but applications for their actual management.
And that the possibilities of its application are much broader than we originally intended. It didn't take long for us to use it ourselves, for example in planning datacenter migration.

By further development we have thus created the TaskControl application, with which you can easily and interactively plan and sort any change project (as verified, for example, in the Slovak Tatra Bank). No matter how difficult it is.

Including yours.
